About Department of Political Science and International Relations
The Department of Political Science/International Relations offers a Bachelor in Political Science/ International Relations and another one in Political Science/International Relations with a profile in EU Legislation and Politics. In addition to these undergraduate programs, it also offers the Master of Science in International Relations. All of these programs contain the most important concepts, ideas, doctrines, and debates, especially those that are relevant to contemporary society in the fields of political science and international affairs. The involvement of highly qualified academic staff in teaching and research in this Department and program, as well as the involvement of local and foreign experts, complements the provision of theoretical and empirical knowledge. The academic staff and support staff have assisted in the performance of academic tasks (the realization of a major research project supported by an annual grant provided by the Institution to each member of the faculty) and have helped to increase the overall scientific quality of the University through periodic qualifications, publications, conferences, etc. Furthermore, there are Memoranda of Cooperation signed with other educational institutions, as in other areas to improve the development of the Institution and to help realize the full potential of the current study program. Collaborations with international academic institutions have helped to include the University of New York Tirana (UNYT) in academic networks, they have also helped to increase the reputation of the institution and its quality. Improving the quality indicators for full-time and part-time academic staff guarantees the fulfillment of the goals of the study program to continue delivering state of the art quality of teaching and research. In addition, we hold regular lectures with guest professors and other guest experts in various programs. Moreover, students in the program are guaranteed access to the UNYT Library, which is part of EBRARY, the official online library of Empire State College of New York, to which UNYT students have full access. Both students of Bachelor and Master programs also have regular access to electronic textbooks via international publishing houses which UNYT has signed contracts to serve students for all classes. BSc students in POLSCI/IR and EU Law and Politics and students of MSc in International Relations also have full access to various databases such as JSTOR, EBSCO, QUESTIA, etc. Furthermore, UNYT has a contract with TURNITIN, the primary anti-plagiarism website where all student assignments for all programs, including the MSc in MN and their respective thesis, are checked for similarity levels before being viewed for substantial and technical content. The Department of Political Science/International Relations has led and participated in EU-funded projects, such as the Jean Monnet Modules, Jean Monnet Network, and Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, together with the EU & Balkan Research Institute of UNYT and has also received various grants that generate additional revenue for the University that supports research, as well as scientific, academic staff mobility and logistics. The same applies to your students who are encouraged to benefit from MoUs and other partnership frameworks that the Department of PSIR and UNYT has with several prestigious European Universities such as Science Po Rennes in France, University of Granada in Spain, University of Tilbug, several prestigious Turkish Universities, etc. We also regularly have foreign students from the aforementioned universities and others attending our classes for one term or one academic year. Therefore, Erasmus +, Jean Monnet Modules, and Jean Monnet Network of the European Commission and special agreements with other institutions of higher education increase the opportunity for the exchange of students and academic staff to carry out further qualifications and research at more universities outside Albania. In addition, the mark (brand) and the positive image of UNYT in Albania and beyond help the orientation of students towards other programs related to the field of international relations. Also, by creating a good network with NGOs and some of the largest private companies helps students of our Departmental majors have a better chance in the job market. We have also involved students in the research activity of the Department of PSIR. The study programs that the PSIR Department offers are in the interest of strategic processes and policies of the political and economic development of the country and the need for high-level experts in international relations..
