Program Name: Bachelor in Political Science/International Relations with Profile in EU Legislation & Politics

The Political Science/International Relations Bachelor 3-year program with Profile in EU Legislation & Politics is designed as part of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at UNYT. It is a program that combines the knowledge of public policy & political affairs as well as international relations and foreign policy with EU Law and Politics. It becomes crucially essential, especially now that Albania will soon open the negotiations for prospective accession to the European Union. The talks of the 35 chapters, which will be the main task of any Albanian government in the next decade, will require a significant number of specialists to work in public administration as well as project coordinators and managers for a variety of NGOs and companies that will apply for EU related funds and offer their technical skills and expertise. We value this new bachelor program to provide a unique possibility for Albanian students to receive a first-class international standard education at UNYT.

Admission Requirements

The Application Process for applying to the Bachelor Programs of UNYT is made possible through the U-Albania Portal on the pre-defined dates from the Ministry of Education.

(For every enrolment period, we should add a customized calendar from U-Albania with the dates for each process. This is usually public in April)

UNYT Admission Criteria

  • CGPA Average is more significant than 6.5/10 for all study programs, In compliance with the Council of Ministers Decree.
  • A complete application form.
  • Original High School Diploma and Transcript copies or photocopies legalized by the Regional Educational Directory and the Ministry of Education and Sports.
  • If the degree was obtained from the Republic of Albania, it must go through the Ministry of Education and Sports diploma recognition process.
  • Photocopy of ID or passport.
  • Two recent passport-size photographs.
  • English Certificate of B1/B2 Level.

International Students Admissions

All applicants should send the following documents to complete the application process:

  • Completed application form (if the application was not filled in online)
  • A Certified copy of high school diploma and transcripts* of all the years
  • Proof of English level B1/B2 Level
  • An electronic passport photo or 3 printed passport-size photos
  • A copy of a valid passport or ID card

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Political Science/International Relations with a profile in International Relations, the students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of political and public affairs, diplomatic relations, international and global events and processes, and the functioning of the European Union.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of political science and international relations fundamentals such as diplomacy and foreign policy, political economy and public affairs, regional area studies, international organizations and international law, etc.
  • Practice a solid foundation in science and liberal studies as delivered through the General Education program.
  • Analyse and evaluate leadership and motivation theories and explain the effect of political science and international relations factors (socioeconomic, cultural, and legal) on global affairs.
  • Explain the principles and theories of ethical decision-making and their practical implications in the everyday conduct of international affairs.
  • Pursue postgraduate studies or other professional Political Science and/or International Relations qualifications.

As a result of completing this program, students will prove the following skills and values:

  • Practice excellent written and oral communication, proving analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to make rational and effective decisions and enduring impact on communities, societal institutions, and society.
  • Use communication skills, including an ability for team building and group work, as well as the ability to respond to change and show resilience.
  • Employ data literacy and qualitative and quantitative data skills, including data analysis, interpretation, and extrapolation.
  • Illustrate self-awareness, openness, tolerance, and sensitivity to diversity in individuals, cultures, and communities.
  • Display effective self-management about time, planning, behaviour, motivation, and individual initiative.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible by developing the capacity to recognize and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Exhibit effective communication and public relations use, essential for a career in diplomacy, public administration, international organizations, or multi-national corporations.

Graduation Requirements

  • To graduate from this program, the students must fulfil the following requirements:
  • Earn 180 ECTS,
  • Achieve a CGPA of 2.0 / 4.0 (50/100).

Issuance of Diploma

  • To issue a diploma, the student must:
  • Complete the DIPLOMA form.
  • Have permission from the Library, IT, and Finance office.
  • Return the SIGNED FORM (signed by the Advisor, Program Chair, and Faculty Dean) to the Registrar's Office.
  • The DIPLOMA signed by the Dean and Rector, defined in Article 5, to be issued, is considered closed and completed.

Occupational Opportunities

The students who finish this program degree have many possibilities and opportunities in the labour market. Our graduates of this bachelor program have pursued successful careers in diplomacy, such as ambassadors or consuls; in public administration, such as directors and advisers of policy; in mass media, international organizations, multinational corporations, security services, or NGOs. Some of our past alums have secured job contracts while doing the internship as part of the mandatory curricula of this study program. Some international organizations where our graduates have worked or worked include World Vision, UNDP, Terre de Hommes Albania, Save the Children, etc. At the same time, others opt to work for foreign embassies in Albania.

Access to further studies

The bachelor’s program in Political Science/International Relations with a profile in International Relations allows students to pursue further post-graduate studies in different disciplines. In the past, we have had our graduates from this undergraduate program continue further studies in disciplines such as international relations, comparative politics, commercial law, MBA, public policy, etc. On the other hand, some of our graduates have pursued PhD studies in political science or international relations at prestigious universities in the USA, UK, Belgium, etc. They are currently enjoying successful academic careers in these countries.
